What is GIS?
Gamma Iota Sigma is a professional risk management fraternity organized to: promote, encourage and sustain student interest in insurance, risk management and the actuarial sciences; encourage high moral and scholarship attainment; and facilitate the interaction and cooperation between universities and risk management industry organizations.
Who Joins?
Currently over 83 campuses in the United States and Canada have chartered Gamma Iota Sigma. The Alpha Upsilon chapter at University of Houston was founded in 2003 and membership is open to all UH students. Gamma Iota Sigma tends to attract those students interested in exciting, well-paying jobs in the insurance industry as well students seeking to better their leadership, public speaking and business planning skills.
Our Vision
Our vision is to attract a diverse and talented group of students to Gamma Iota Sigma and provide exposure to industry professionals and insight into the risk management, insurance, and actuarial science fields to further the presence of Gamma Iota Sigma, not only on campus, but in the industry itself.
Our Objectives
Our objectives are to develop real-world academic programs, provide personal and specialized industry exposure opportunities, and create leaders of future generations in the industry. As a business professional fraternity, our goal is to arm you with the right knowledge and tools to excel in the risk management, insurance, or actuarial science fields.
